(Photo : AeroMobil) It might be hard to fathom, but AeroMobil, a startup in Slovakia, has just unveiled a flying car, which the team has been working on for over 25 years.
People have been daydreaming about flying cars for decades, but it has always been dismissed as mere fantasy. However, as the world accelerates into the age of electric and driverless cars, a Slovakian startup wants to show the world that the pipe dream of flying cars could become a reality.

Bratislava-based AeroMobil's AeroMobil 3.0 is the company's big attempt at bringing the future of flying cars to the present. It is a small two-seater sport-like car that can open its wings and begin take-off with low velocity, hitting a maximum speed of 200 km per hour (124 miles per hour).
Due to the smaller and lighter design, AeroMobil 3.0 needs much less fuel and speed to take off from the ground and begin flying. The car will be able to sit at low-height, similar to drones, and land quicker than commercial planes.
Stefan Klein has been working on commercial flying cars for 25 years now, developing the company with CEO Juraj Vaculik in 2011 to facilitate the need for making this technology public. Like most new technologies in cars, it will take quite a few years before AeroMobil is available on the roads - or in the air.
AeroMobil will look to add the new flying car into developing markets, where roads and transport is lackluster. Having the ability to fly over towns will speed up travel and allow them the freedom to pick a route they feel comfortable with, skipping past the annoying road-works.
Even though the Slovakian government has allowed AeroMobil limited access on the roads, it will be harder for the company to gain approval in other European countries and the U.S. The Asian market might be more accepting of this new technology, but it will still require drivers to also get a piloting license.
