United States President Barack Obama offered condolences to the victims of the two tornados that ripped through Arkansas and Oklahoma on Sunday.
During a joint press conference with Philippine President Benigno Aquino III in Malacañang, the Philippine seat of government, Obama momentarily veered away from discussing his visit to Asia and instead offered condolences to the victims of the tornado.

As of press time, the tornado has already claimed 12 lives with hundreds of others reportedly injured.
Even if he is in Asia, Obama said help will continue to come to his fellow Americans who are in need of help, especially those hit by the tornado.
Obama said first responders have already been deployed to conduct search and rescue operations and assist those who are injured.
Tornados, believed to be part of the dangerous thunderstorm system, ripped through Arkansas and Oklahoma Sunday night, damaging houses, uprooting trees and poles, and smashing vehicles on its way.
At least 12 persons have already been confirmed dead but authorities fear the death toll could rise as rescuers began clearing building rubbles.
US Representative Tim Griffin described the devastation he saw after visiting a neighborhood whose 50 houses have been totally wiped out. Griffin said he received reports of more devastation in other parts of Arkansas.
Meanwhile, during the joint press conference with Philippine President Aquino, Obama clarified that the US does not intend to revive or rebuild the US military bases in the Philippines.
He said US and Philippine military will conduct cooperation through the bases owned by the Philippines.
On the issue of the territorial dispute between China and the Philippines, Obama said his administration supports the Philippine move to bring the issue to international arbitration. Obama also made it clear that the United States is committed to stand with the Philippines in any events.
"The United States will continue to stand with you, our commitment to the Philippines will not waiver," Obama said.
