The body found at Secatogue Road located in Long Island, New York has been identified. Nassau County Police stated during a press conference on Wednesday that it belonged to a Farmingdale State College professor named Patricia Ward.

According to the Farmingdale State College, Ward worked at the establishment for 28 years. She was well-known, well-liked, and well-respected. According to the Nassau County police Detective Lt. John Azzata, the 66-year-old college professor was butchered by her son, Derek Ward, a chronically-unemployed person and a psychotic killer for no known reason.

Azzata added that the body of Patricia was dragged out on the street from the second-floor of their apartment to the lobby of the building at around eight in the evening. He also disclosed that Patricia suffered from multiple stab wounds, multiple signs of trauma, and broken ribs noting that the weapon believed to be used was a knife, which was also recovered by the officials.

The officials also revealed that he sat alone with the butchered body of her mother in their apartment in Farmingdale before he dumped the corpse on the street and shortly after, he took his own life by stepping in front of a Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train.

Witnesses say that Patricia was last seen four hours before the body was found and that her son, who was 35 years old, already had psychiatric problems for the past 10 years. Derek reportedly spent 45 days in jail back in 2006 as he was guilty of having 100 Valium pills and a 9-mm Smith and Wesson handgun in his possession. In 2003, he was arrested due to criminal mischief charges.

Derek and Patricia just moved in to the said apartment three months ago. No reports regarding domestic violence between the mother and son were ever reported.

The family of the victim and the killer were asked to comment on the situation, but they said they are not going to talk right now as they would like to grieve in private.
