Suri, who was born in India in 1967, will take over the helm at Nokia as the Finnish mobile phone manufacturer opens a new chapter following the sale of its devices and services division to the US-headquartered software giant.

Nokia Chairman Riso Siilasmaa expressed confidence that Suri will be the right person to the lead the company into the future because of his experience and proven ability to create strategies and deliver results.

Siilasmaa will continue to be Nokia's chairman while Suri would take office on May 1st.

Suri is not new to Nokia, having worked in the company from 1995 to 2007, where he held various leadership positions. He became CEO of NSN since 2009, transforming the business into a leader in the global telecom infrastructure industry.

Various new appointments are expected to be made at Nokia in the next few days following Microsoft's purchase of its devices and services division.

The US $7-billion deal also means that Microsoft will now employ Nokia's 25,000 employees around the globe and acquire the factories that Nokia owns.

Both Nokia and Microsoft, however, have agreed not to transfer to Microsoft its manufacturing plants in Chennai, India and Masan, South Korea.
