An American national, known for openly supporting the pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong, has found himself the target of attacks by pro-Beijing media who have accused him of being a CIA agent.
Mark Simon, the right hand man of pro-democracy newspaper owner, Jimmy Lai, has packed his family's bags and moved them out of Hong Kong for safety.

China has pointed to "foreign forces" as behind the destabilization of Hong Kong during the ongoing pro-democracy protests which have now reached the one month mark.
Simon stated he would not let a smear campaign against him force him out of his home in Hong Kong and that he still has plenty of energy to continue the fight.
The 50-year-old Republican has been branded across Beijing media as a CIA agent together with student protest leaders, Joshua Wong and Robert Chung.
The expat said he is also a proud Catholic, one that connects him to Lai and other political figures that are involved in the Hong Kong democracy protests.
Simon described Lai as a fierce supporter of the underdogs and does not present himself as a self-centered man who believes he can solve the Hong Kong problem on his own.
"Jimmy's instinct is to size up the weak, and to size up the strong, and then instinctively protect the weak," he said.
Hong Kong protests are running on its first month now with protesters demanding China to allow them the right to choose their own leader in the upcoming 2017 chief executive election.
The demonstrations have generally been peaceful except for the occasional scuffles between the pro-democracy activists and the pro-Beijing supporters seeking to remove the protesters from the streets.
China has expressed dismay and dissatisfaction over the "Foreign Forces" reportedly behind the current demonstrations. The mega Asian nation has repeatedly announced that the internal affairs of Hong Kong are China's business and that foreigners have no right to meddle in China's matters.
