A number of PlayStation 4 owners that installed an update released Tuesday have gone to online forums to complain about problems that include the platform not reawakening from "Rest Mode."

Codenamed "Masamune," Version 2.0 toted some notable feature updates, including system themes, sharing games with friends over the Internet and uploading gameplay videos to YouTube.

The update, however, has been tainted by numerous reports that putting the console into standby mode, which is now called "Rest Mode," stops the system from booting up. There are also some reports of bugs with the YouTube functions.

Sony, in the meantime, has suggested that users boot the consoles into "Safe Mode" to update the system's software. The company also told CNET they're currently "investigating these issues and will provide an update once we have more information."

CNET also recommends that owners avoid cutting power to a PS4 that has hung, as doing so can damage the console's data. The site also suggests PS4 users that have updated to Masamune turn the console off instead of putting it into Rest Mode until the device manufacturer releases a patch to fix the problems.

While Sony's current-generation console is having problems, rival Microsoft is attempting to sell more of its Xbox Ones by slashing its price.

The Redmond-based company will temporarily cut the cost of its Xbox One consoles by US$50 starting Sunday. It will keep the lower price of the platform until the end of the year to boost sales.

Microsoft said the Xbox One model that comes bundled with the Kinect motion camera will go for US$499 instead of the full-blown price of US$499.

Without the motion camera, the Xbox One will retail for US$349, down from its earlier price tag of US$399.
