Ambulances and police cars were seen rushing to the scene as people in the railway station, in the adjacent square, and nearby surrounding areas had been evacuated.

Sources said armed policemen have been deployed in the square while others cordoned off all entrances to the station.

Authorities said train services have already been suspended.

As of press time, there was no confirmation yet on the cause of the blast and the number of casualties, if there was any.

The explosion, although still not linked to terrorism, occurred two days after China's President Xi Jinping urged authorities in Xinjiang to find the best and most effective ways to deal with terrorists.

Xi conducted an inspection tour of the autonomous region last Sunday and met with police officers on Monday to discuss the best ways to combat terrorism.

The president urged authorities to gear up to better protect themselves considering that they are at the battlefront in the anti-terrorist war.

President Xi has been very concern about terrorism and has urged authorities to intensify the campaign against terrorist groups since the Kunming knife attack that killed 29 people. The attack was linked to terrorism.

In a meeting with senior leaders last week, Xi said China will unveil its iron fist in combating terrorism as he vowed to protect the interest of the country at all cost.

President Xi has discussed the issue on terrorism thrice this month, sending a signal that terrorists remain a huge threat to the country's peace and order.
