U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power Under Self-Monitoring After Returning from West Africa

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power is self-monitoring for Ebola, after arriving from her trip to some of the countries hardest-hit by the  Ebola epidemic in West Africa.

Power arrived in New York City Thursday, and although she had been critical of some of the restrictions that some states wanted to implement to be protected, the ambassador said she would abide by federal guidelines.

Power even tweeted some of the photos showing her being screened as she exited from her flight.

Later, at a Reuters Newsmaker event in New York, Power spoke about federal regulations creating a balance of "the need to respond to the fears that this has generated with the known science on the disease."

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issues guidelines to various states and federal government agencies to screen everyone arriving from a trip to countries affected by Ebola. Among the symptoms to watch out for include a temperature of 100.4 degress or higher, severe headaches, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and unexplained bleeding or bruising.

Soldiers now deployed to West African countries affected will face  more stringent quarantine measures when they return to the U.S.

US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has approved a recommendation from the Joint Chiefs mandatin a 21-day isolation period for all military personnel returning from the region. The regimen will be reviewed after 45 days.
