A 30-year-old primary school teacher from Guizhou province, who allegedly raped 12 students, had been arrested Wednesday in Nanfeng village, authorities said today.

The fourth-grade male teacher allegedly raped at least a dozen students with varying age. Some of them are in grade two, while the others are in grades four and six.

According to reports, the youngest of the victims is only eight years old.

The said suspect is married and has a three-year-old child.

The authorities brought all the 12 victims to the hospital in the city of Bijie for physical inspections. Yet, the results of the tests have yet to be released to the public and to their parents as well.

According to reports, the sexual abuses have been happening since 2012. A parent of one of the victims stated that the suspect would abuse the children sexually right beside his classroom. The parent also mentioned that the victims were threatened by the suspects so they will not to tell others about what he had been doing to them.

Majority of the victims of the abuse are children of parents who work in cities outside Bijie. They are often left behind at home for long periods of time while their parents are working far away.

Since the city of Bijie is situated in a mountainous region in Northwest Guizhou, a lot of the adults have to go away and work elsewhere to support their families. The children are often left without parental supervision, making them vulnerable to neglect, abuse, and misconduct by other people around them.

The teacher is now under the care of the local authorities. The results of the physical tests, as well as the preliminary investigation about the alleged cases, are still yet to be reported and released to the public.
