And Tatum is eventually tagged to reprise his role as the card-slinging lead.

However, neither Fox nor Marvel has yet issued any details of the storyline.

In an interview with MTV News, Tatum dropped hints of his mutant project, although he did not divulge any details.

"I don't want to give too much away because we don't know that much right now other than who Gambit is," Tatum said.

"We really do want to try our hardest to give something fresh. We're obviously going to go for the saving the world superhero movies eventually, but not for the first one, " he continued.

30-year-old Tatum stars in, The Book of Life, which is slated for release this month.

Fox partners with Free Association partner Reid Carolin, The Donners Company's Lauren Shuler Donner, and Genre Films' Simon Kinberg as producers of the film.

Gambit is one of the main X-Men characters, whose real name is Remy LeBeau. Gambit has the ability to release matter with volatile kinetic energy, causing any object he holds or throws, explosively release its charge on impact.

Zetumer, Tatum and Carolin are currently collaborating to produce Magic Mike XXL. The script is helmed by Carolin with Tatum as the lead.

Tatum's next gig would be Bennett Miller's Foxcatcher. The actor is already making Oscar buzz for his performance as Olympic pro wrestler Mark Schultz, which premiered in Cannes.
