A British-Iranian woman detained for trying to watch a men's volleyball tournament has been sentenced to one year in prison.
Ghoncheh Ghavami, 25, was among the 40-some female fans and reporters Iranian officials arrested after attempting to enter Tehran's Azadi Stadium last June to watch a men's Iran-Italy volleyball match.

While the group had been released shortly after, Ghavami, an alumna of the University of London's School of African and Oriental Studies, was re-arrested after she went back to claim her belongings.
According to the Telegraph, the 25-year-old was placed in solitary confinement and was subjected to intense psychological interrogation, having been denied access to a lawyer for weeks.
She was finally granted a trial last month after going on a two-week hunger strike.
Ghavami's attorney, Alizadeh Tabatabaie, said his client was charged with engaging in propagandist activities against the Islamic State. He alleged the presiding judge showed him the 12-month jail sentence, but gave no reason for the conviction.
Britain has voiced concern over the case and the way the dual citizen had been treated.
We have concerns about how this incident is being handled, including the grounds for prosecution, proper due process and how Ghavami has been treated while in custody, according to a statement from the British foreign office issued Sunday.
Authorities claim the charge was unrelated to the volleyball match, ABC Australia Network noted.
Meanwhile, rights group Amnesty International has criticized Ghavami's arrest, calling her a prisoner of conscience and called for her unconditional and immediate release.
UK's Amnesty Director Kate Allen said the ruling was "appalling," arguing against the gender discrimination in Iran.
Ghavami's brother, Imam, told media that the trial has remained closed to the public. Ghavami's parents have likewise not been allowed to attend the proceedings.
"She's physically and mentally exhausted by all this. But she's not giving up hope," he added.
