The Internet Archive has added a collection of over 900 classic arcade games now available for free online.
The launch of these arcade games is the latest iteration of the JavaScript Mess (JSMESS) project,. The classic games include 3D Genesis, Alien, Dolphin and Fast Food.

In December 2013, the San Francisco-based nonprofit's collection of movies, websites, books, audio and games released a "Console Living Room" that offers video games from the 1970s to the 1990s.
According to the Archive's webpage, the game collection includes many different genres and styles starting "from early 'bronze-age' video games with black-and-white screens and simple sounds, through to large-scale games containing digitized voices, images and music."
The project took months of testing, refinement, improvements and efforts. Among the 900 arcade games, "some are in pretty weird shape - vector games are an issue, scaling is broken for some, and some have control mechanisms" but many are good enough, said Jason Scott, developer and curator of the project in a blog post.
"Most games are playable in some form, although some are useful more for verification of behavior or programming due to the intensity and requirements of their systems," Scott added.
The archivist explained "the effort is about software history." Scott also hopes that the emulators will encourage others to get involved in the Internet Archive project.
