Santa Ana Halloween Hit-and-Run Leaves 3 Dead, Multiple Arrests Made

In the most recent update on a Halloween evening incident where three teenagers were the victims of a hit-and-run while trick-or-treating, the Santa Ana Police Department announced in a statement released on Sunday that they have arrested multiple suspects.

According to the SAPD's statement, multiple arrests were made Sunday morning in line with the Halloween hit-and-run case that killed 13-year-old twin sisters and their friend of the same age on Friday at a Santa Ana crosswalk.

Authorities, however, declined to release further information about the suspects until the next press release scheduled on Monday.

Witness statement indicated that the girls were clad in dark costumes including black leggings and dark clothing when they were struck at around 6:45 Friday evening.

Two of the three victims were immediately declared dead on scene while the other one died as paramedics were preparing to take her to a medical facility.

While investigating the scene, authorities recovered a damaged and abandoned black Honda SUV near the collision site.

The coroner's office later identified the victims as Andrea Gonzalez and twin sisters Lexi and Lexandra Perez.

According to reports, the impact of the collision caused the victims to be thrown over 100 feet from where they stood.

"Witnesses say the vehicle was traveling at a high-rate of speed. I didn't see any skid marks, so it doesn't appear they slowed down whatsoever," Santa Ana Police Department Capt. Anthony Bertagna explained.

While the incident happened in a 35 miles per hour area, authorities believed that the vehicle had been travelling double that speed prior to hitting the girls.

According to one witness, he followed the fleeing vehicle to a small strip where he apparently saw two men get out of the car and leave the scene on foot.

Family and friends of the three young women gathered on Saturday to hold a memorial for the unfortunate hit-and-run victims.
