Death with dignity advocate Brittany Maynard carried out her own death at her home in Portland, Oregon on Saturday after finally completing her bucket list and overcoming her recent hesitation regarding her decision.
According to Compassion & Choices spokesperson Sean Crowley, Maynard was administered a lethal dose of medication prescribed by a physician on Saturday evening and died "as she intended -- peacefully in her bedroom, in the arms of her loved ones."

In a post on their Facebook page, the non-profit organization, who advocates the right-to-die for terminally ill people, announced Maynard's death.
"We're sad to announce the passing of a dear and wonderful woman, Brittany Maynard. She passed peacefully in her bed surrounded by close family and loved ones," they wrote.
According to reports, the 29-year-old woman, who moved from San Francisco to Oregon with her family because of the latter's Death with Dignity Act, had suffered more severe pain as well as longer and more frequent seizures and other stroke-like symptoms.
Maynard was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma and was told that she only had six months to live earlier this year.
Refusing to succumb to the disease, she, however, decided to die at her own time with dignity, as she clearly explained in an online video campaign posted by Compassion & Choices over the Internet on October 6 which garnered over 9 million views.
In the video, Maynard reveals that after discussing with experts the manner in which she would die from the tumor, the young woman decided it was less terrifying to "choose to go with dignity."
She later moved to Oregon with her family including 43-year-old husband, Dan Diaz, who expressed his utmost support for his wife's decision.
Diaz as well as Maynard's mother and stepfather were all present when the physician administered the medications that would end her life.
Before deciding to get on with her death, Maynard chose to live her final moments in this world fulfilling a list of things she wanted to do including visiting places such as Alaska, British Colombia, and Yellowstone National Park as well as the well-known Grand Canyon with her family by her side.
A statement from Compassion & Choices said that Maynard had no regrets over how she spent her 29 years in this world.
