The Foreign Ministry of China gave an angry response following the United States’ criticism regarding the country’s cooperation in fighting terrorism.
In a statement issued late Thursday, the foreign ministry said that China has become a terror victim and that it strongly opposes any form of terrorist acts done or supported by any individual or group.

It also added that Beijing is unhappy with the 2013 reports on terrorism released by the United State Department which was published last month. The report said that China’s cooperation in combating terrorist attacks in the country has remained marginal and that there was lack of evidence to prove that the incident in Xinjiang involved such act.
The Chinese government stated that religious extremists were responsible of the suicide bombing in Xinjiang last Wednesday night. The incident killed one person and injured 79 others, reported Reuters.
The security in Urumqi was tightened on Friday. Urumqi was the very scene where a deadly riot has been held five years ago between ethnic Han Chinese and Muslim Uighurs, taking the lives of 200 people.
The train station was busy with hundreds of workers coming in and around China for employment. Many were sitting in the station plaza waiting for trains to arrive that would take them on the other parts of China, said a report from Reuters.
Xinjiang has been attacked by religious extremists in the past years. However, suicide reports have been very rare, continued the report.
The foreign ministry responded to the US report saying that the issue regarding fighting against terrorism would only be compromised after irresponsible remarks toward other countries have been made and the adaption of double standards urged.
The local government in Xinjiang posted on its official news site on Thursday saying that the attack in Urumqi was triggered by two men who have been influenced by the thoughts conveyed in the extremist religion and participated in the extreme activities of the sect.
