Xtreme Fighting Championships (XFC), an American mixed martial arts organization founded in early 2006, is interested in putting together a card with Wanderlei Silva against Chael Sonnen in Brazil. Silva has already accepted.

The Pride Legend and former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran, Silva was recently a guest color commentator for XFC International 7 in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

After the main event - a fight where Allan Nascimiento defeated Ruslan Abiltarov via decision - XFC President Myron Molotky asked Silva if he was ready for the fight.

In an interview with RedeTV, the channel that aired the XFC event live in Brazil, Silva did in fact express interest in facing his long-time rival.

"If (Sonnen) accepts the fight, why not?" Silva said. "I'd do it. Why not? I'm here. Come get it."

Silva was originally supposed to face Sonnen after their coaching stint on the Ultimate Fighter reality series. The fight was moved later on to UFC 175 then, faded into obscurity.

The reason for the match never materializing is due to drug tests. Sonnen tested positive for banned substances while Silva ran away from the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) who tried to test him at his gym.

This banned both fighters from getting licenses, and eventually ended their UFC career.

Due to the debacle, Silva officially retired from the limelight of professional fighting. However, with this new opportunity thrust upon him - and in his home country of Brazil no less - it looks as if The Axe Murderer is ready for one more fight.

Sonnen also retired after his run-in with a drug test gone wrong. His foray into competitive sport was during Metamoris, a grappling-only event where he lost to world champion Andre Galvao.

Sonnen is currently hosting his own podcast called, "You're Welcome." He has had several notable guests such as MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, UFC veteran Chris Lieben, and ex-welterweight champion of the UFC, Georges St-Pierre.
