Lauren Hill, a 19-year old with brain cancer, got her wish and much more, as she got to play her one desired game in the Division III Mount St. Joseph and also scored the first basket for the 2014-2015 basketball season.
Just 17 seconds into the game with Hiram college, Hill took a pass in the post and hit a left-handed lay up to score the first points of the game and the season.

After she scored, the crowd on both sides stood and gave her a standing ovation before she sat down on the bench and the game resumed.
With one minute left in the game, Mount St. Joseph called a timeout. The crowd began to chant, "We love Lauren!" Afterwards, they put Hill in again. She would go on to score two more points that game which her team won, 66-55.
In an interview after the game, Hill said that she never thought she would play on a college court, put her feet on the floor and even feel the vibration of the crowd.
"This game has been amazing and everything that happened today was amazing. This is a really good day," Hill said.
Due to her story, the typical 100-fan game of Mount St. Joseph was turned on its head, as 10,000 fans flooded the stands at Xavier University just to see Hill play.
Xavier University had offered the use of their arena, while employees volunteered to staff the game as well.
Mount St. Joseph President Dr. Tony Artez said that the amount of support was incredible. He goes on to say that they are a community that cares, and to have it brought to life in that way was incredible.
Hill found out about her cancer in her senior year in high school. By September, the doctors were only giving her months to live.
With the help of the NCAA and the schools, they were able to push back the playing dates in order to have Hill play that one game that she wanted to play.
