Aretha Franklin Earns Highest Charting Album Since 1985

You can never let a good singer down. This says true to Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin, who makes herself a league of her own as she reached another milestone in her already-legendary career-landing the highest-charting album since 1985 with Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics.

The album debuted at No. 3 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and landed the 13th in the Billboard 200.

The last time Franklin's had an chart topping album was in 1985 when Who's Zoomin' Who landed a spot at both charts.

The new album also highlights her career because it is also the highest debut for an ever on the Billboard 200, surpassing the No. 30 debut of A Rose Is Still a Rose in 1998.

But other than the success of her album, Aretha Franklin also relishes the distinction of becoming the first female and the fourth artist in the history of music to earn 100 career titles on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart since the chart converted to multi-metric ranking in 1958.

Her version of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep," which is her album's first single, landed at No. 47. An added twist to it was the mixing of the choral arrangement of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough." "Rolling in the Deep" landed at No. 9 on R&B Digital Songs, selling over 12,000 downloads, Nielsen SoundScan can reveal.

Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics made 23,000 sales in its debut week. Her 2003 album, So Damn Happy managed to sell 27,000 copies only in its third week.

Also making into the top 10 is list is Boyz II Men's Collide, which debuted at No. 6. This is the group's 10th top 10 album, which debuted on the charts with its first album, CooleyHighHarmony in 1991.
