Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks will be penning a collection of short stories revolving around his collection of typewriters. Publisher Alfred A. Knopf will be publishing and releasing the book; however, a publication date has yet to be announced.

The book has no title yet and, potential profits and financial terms have not been disclosed.

Peter Gethers, Senior Vice President and Editor-at-Large of Penguin Random House, will be editing Hanks' book.

The announcement was made on Monday, with the publisher releasing a statement to the press, stating that the book will be "a collection of stories loosely connected to photographs of typewriters from Hanks' personal collection."

The 58-year old actor shared that he has been collecting typewriters since 1978 and that they date from the 1930s to the 1990s. Hanks shared that he had started collecting the said vintage machines for no reason whatsoever.

He clarified in a statement released by Knopf that that short stories won't be about the typewriters themselves, but rather, about the stories that were created through their utility.

Although the performer is known more for his acting prowess, this is not the first time he has taken on the task of writing a short story.

Last October 27, his short story "Alan Bean Plus Four" was published on the New Yorker. The said story revolved around four teens who fly to the moon on a rocket they built with materials they bought from Home Depot.

"Alan Bean Plus Four" received mixed reviews from critics.

This isn't the first time the actor will be publicly expressing his love for typewriters either. Hanks created Hanx Writer, a typewriter app which topped the Apple iTunes Store chart last August. The said app features the distinct clicks and "ding" a traditional typewriter makes.

Hanks shared that he has been surrounded by a lot of storytellers because of his acting career. "Like an enthusiastic student, I want to tell some of my own," he shared.
