42-year old "Rizzoli & Isles" actress and model Angie Harmon and 43-year old New York Giants cornerback Jason Sehorn have mutually and amicably decided to part ways, ending their 13 years of marriage.

In a statement exclusively released to People magazine, Harmon's rep stated, "'for the sake of their children, they ask for respect and privacy as they navigate this time in their lives."

Harmon and Sehorn have three children together, namely 11-year old Finley, 9-year old Avery and 5-year old Emery.

The actress, who has been very vocal about the difficulties of balancing her family and personal life with her career, has been busy splitting her time between Los Angeles where she shoots her hit TV series and, North Carolina where her family resides.

Harmon previously shared that marriage takes a lot of work, adding, "I don't get out Friday nights early enough to catch a flight home. So I'm here. We sometimes meet in Texas, a two-and-a-half hour flight for both of us. I miss my kids, so it's hard, but my children are so understanding."

Before the couple split, she advised other couples to always be considerate of each other and, to be really kind to one another.

Harmon and Sehorn started dating in 1997 after he divorced his first wife, CNN correspondent Whitney Casey.

The actress and former athlete had one of the most memorable marriage proposals on television.

The proposal happened during Harmon's appearance on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" in 1998. Leno was asking her about her love life and about her relationship with Sehorn, when the former NFL player suddenly walked on stage and asked her to marry him while on bended knee.

After Harmon, a devout Christian, said yes to Sehorn's proposal, Sir Elton John serenaded the once-happy couple.

The two were married in 2001.
