The nurse who failed to follow the quarantine procedure after getting back from treating patients in West Africa has finally reached a settlement deal with Maine on Monday allowing her to travel in public freely. However, she was still pressed to monitor her health.

Nurse Kaci Hickox came from regions where Ebola was rampant. She filed a lawsuit against the state since she was briefly quarantined in New Jersey following her return from these visits. Hichox is from Fort Kent in Maine. The judge handling her case has issued the order, which will be in effect until Nov. 10.

Hickox reportedly returned to the United States just last month after being assigned in Sierra Leone and pressed that she was kept in a tent outside a hospital in New Jersey even if she did not show any of the symptoms. She recently made headlines as she stated Ebola patients are being treated like animals.

She also criticized New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Maine Governor Paul LePage as they defended how they handled her set-up during the reported quarantine.

According to the attorney of Hickox, Eric Saunders, the governor was outspoken about his views and has spoken in behalf of the people who feared the dreaded disease being spread in the state, but he pressed that people should bear in mind "what the law and the science says".

This is the first time a health worker assigned in the affected areas of West Africa to treat patients inflicted with the disease complained about being quarantined. There have been many states that imposed mandatory quarantines over health workers coming from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, but no reports of similar nature surfaced.

Another public figure who commented on the situation of Hickox was U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon. He said on Monday that there should be no unnecessary strict restrictions on healthcare workers as they are placed in the critical situation of helping in preventing the spread of the virus.
