The National Basketball Association's (NBA) Phoenix Suns are experimenting early on with their striking three-guard lineup in Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe, and Isaiah Thomas.
In their previous and most important game against the defending champions, the San Antonio Spurs, Suns Coach Jeff Hornacek explored unknown territory when he put in the three point guards of his team all at the same time.

For seven minutes, the three best players on their roster were playing together. And for that time, they secured an 8-0 run that stole the lead and effectively sealed the game.
The Suns will continue to research in earnest the capabilities of their three-guard lineup.
Most critics and pundits already knew that the Suns would run a two-guard setup as soon as Thomas was acquired from the Kings via sign-and-trade.
The fact that each of these three guards will work effectively and are compatible with any pairing, also makes the setup a viable approach.
The reason the Suns ran these three players at the same time against the Spurs was because of a prerequisite time and place, and not due to opponent quality.
The fact that the Spurs leaned on a perimeter trio of Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and Danny Green, is what allowed Phoenix to run their small lineup with little to no risk.
The three-guard setup worked like a charm, with the third ball handler allowing the Suns to move the ball up the floor quickly enough, even in crunch time.
An example was a layup from Thomas which resulted from a snap outlet pass and a fearless sprint through a one-on-three fast break. Another play saw Bledsoe hand the ball off to Dragic, who handed it off to Thomas, giving the feel of a double reverse.
This kind of play lasted for seven minutes, and all without a turnover. The potential of the trio is clearly evident.
The Suns will look to face the Lakers for their upcoming game.
