Durant Cites Paul George's Leg Break as Reason for Withdrawing from FIBA Tournament

National Basketball Association (NBA) small forward superstar Kevin Durant has finally revealed that fellow superstar Paul George's leg break was his real reason for dropping out of the 2014 FIBA World Championship team.

Last summer, Durant dropped out of the United States Men's National Team just weeks before the FIBA tournament started. It was considered a surprise for the team, but it didn't really matter much as Team USA still walked away with the gold.

At the time, Durant released a statement saying that his decision resulted from the fact that he needed to take a step back and take some time away, both mentally and physically, so he could prepare for the upcoming 2014-2015 NBA season.

However, it turned out that it wasn't the whole truth.

Durant's HBO Sports special, "The Offseason: Kevin Durant," will be airing this Tuesday.

According to Washington Post's Michael Lee, Durant explains to viewers, his real reason which is George's injury that he sustained in a practice game for the FIBA Championship. Durant said it was the main driving point behind his decision to withdraw.

A day before Durant reached out to coach Drew Krzyzewski, he saw George break his right leg in a collision with a basket stanchion.

Lee recounts Durant telling friend Randy Williams and Nike executive at his camp that, "It took everything out of me seeing that. Everything I had to play for Team USA, that injury stripped it away from me."

Durant went on to say that it felt awkward. Once they began playing, he said it just felt off for some reason.

This recent development will definitely reverberate throughout the world and the NBA. It will be interesting to see the reactions of his fellow players and peers.
