(Photo : Nest Labs) Nest Labs has announced a new update for its smart thermostat, coming just in time for the Winter season.
Home automation company Nest Labs will bring one of its largest firmware updates to the smart thermostat, Update 4.3, on Nov. 4. The update will come just in time for the winter season, where Nest believes their smart thermostat can save the most money for homes.
Nest is bringing a new updated UI to the smart thermostat, with new views to explore features. The new algorithms for heating will also save customers six percent from the previous version, making Nest an even smarter investment.

"What the update is going to do is it will learn from your preferences better," said Lionel Paillet, General Manager in Europe, in an interview with TrustedReviews. "It is going to adjust better to the weather outside and the occupancy of the home. All-in-all, we are going to deliver six percent more energy savings than what we were delivering with the previous auto schedule."
The new user interface changes bring "Quick View", allowing users to see more information about how Nest is using information to set heating temperatures in the house. Users will be able to check the heat indoors and outdoors on the smart thermostat.
Nest has also added a new System Test to make diagnostics much easier. Because the installation process for Nest's thermostat is harder than the average gadget, some people end up reading the instructions incorrectly and break the unit before it even starts processing.
Google recently acquired Nest Labs for $3.2 billion and has been investing heavily in smart home startups ever since - Dropcam was acquired for $555 million last month and Revolv was acquired earlier this week.
Even though Google has left Nest Labs rather independent from the main company, it looks like it is trying to push Nest's information gathering. Having more information to work with is always good, as it could save customers more money, but some are worried Google will overstep its boundaries.
