Hitting the box office hard with the weekend take of an estimated $92 million, the Amazing Spiderman 2 seems to have cast a wide web.

The story revolves around three arch villains and some minor evil doers with the broody Peter Parker, aka Spiderman, getting into it with some physics defying fights around Manhattan's landmarks.

This Marvel Comic superhero has already won a lot of hearts; however, the box office records make it evident that it still has a long way to go. Apparently, it is the weakest opening of any Spiderman flick to date.

While the movie is continuing to do well overseas, Sony's grand plans of building an Avenger's Style conveyor belt of films based on the rights to Spiderman characters seems to be a bit worrisome.

Though The Amazing Spiderman 2 didn't break any records in North America, it is still off to a strong start in different regions around the globe, earning around $370 million.

Around 33 percent of the $200 million bagged by the movie in the US was fuelled by families and young moviegoers. Around 51 percent of the ticket buyers were under the age of 25, statistics revealed.

Males made up for 61 percent of the viewing audience, and an estimated $9.3 million of  the ticket sales was earned from 353 Imax theatres and $7.3 million was from large-format screens.

In terms of May openings, the Amazing Spiderman 2 has come up to the 7th rank with director Marc Webb re-teaming with stars Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield for the sequel.

"Audiences are enamored with superheroes and 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' is the latest proof of that, particularly in the international marketplace," Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst at Rentrak, explained.

The critics are currently 54 percent favorable, according to Rottentomatoes.com.
