However, McDermott told "Access Hollywood Live" that the stress from it all has been too much and, he can no longer live his life being scrutinized by the public.
"I can't do this anymore. I can't keep opening a vein, opening my soul and sharing my feelings and thoughts and demons with the world," he confessed.
Aside from delving into issues about infidelity, the reality show has also included his substance abuse issues into the storylines.
Although the actor wants out of the show, he shared that he doesn't want out of his marriage and, he believes that it is far from over. He said that he wishes that he never cheated on her and, that he never let his addiction to alcohol, drugs and sex get the best of him.
The actor insists that he still loves his wife very much and that is why they are still together. He admits that wanting to save his marriage is keeping him sober and loyal. "It's keeping me sane, addressing my depression. I'm on the right medication. Things are looking up right now," he added.
He states that he continues to hold on to the hope that things will get better and that they will eventually get past their issues. McDermott shares that despite the infidelity, he still loves his wife and still wants to grow old with her. He says that he is fortunate that she feels the same way.
Instead of continuing with the reality show, he wants to work towards reviving his acting career, especially since he just got hired to star on "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation".
