After white comedian Artie Lange posted an explicit tweet about a sex slave fantasy he had about ESPN "First Take" black host Cari Champion, users were left aghast and angry, accusing him of racism and having fantasies of rape.

The tweet, posted on Tuesday morning referring to Lange as Thomas Jefferson and to Champion as a "slave" he whips and eventually marries and has kids with, has so far cost him one gig with Comedy Central.

Lange, who left "The Howard Stern Show" after a 2009 suicide attempt, took to Twitter on Wednesday to explain his side, and to express his care and concern for Champion, who he hoped was not offended by his tweet.

He said he was only joking, but admits that they were "very stupid" and tweeted an apology directly to Champion.

Upon apologizing to Champion, Lange then tweeted lengthily about what prompted him to post the explicit and racially motivated tweets, saying that he was watching Champion on TV and noticed that she "was a gorgeous lady" and "black".

After the obvious observation, Lange then decided that it would be funny to tweet an explicit and racial tweet about his fondness for Champion, saying that it might have been a joke that he would usually share "privately in my home among friends. I know black women who could join me and handle it."

Lange stressed that he is not apologizing for the tweets, but is apologizing to Champion if they offended her.

"I would rather load trucks for a living then ever apologize to one of these awful PC groups ruining the country. So that's a NO," he tweeted.

He said his mom was disgusted by the tweets, but that if he based his jokes on what his mom liked, then he'd be broke.
