White House Press Secretary Jay Carney released a statement Tuesday saying that the Obama administration plans to send a team of advisors to Nigeria to assist in the rescue of 200 Nigerian girls who were abducted by Islamic militants from a boarding school last month.
The United States government will provide aid in the form of intelligence and hostage negotiators in order to help the Nigerian government locate the girls as well as discuss their release.

The Islamists terrorist group Boko Haram has taken responsibility for the kidnapping and threatened to sell the girls into slavery.
The girls are believed being held by the Boko Haram in a remote area located in the northeastern part of the country.
President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry held a meeting on Tuesday to solidify plans for assisting Nigeria in recovering the kidnapped girls.
The US did not say how large their team would be, but Carney clarified that there are no plans to send military resources to Nigeria as of this time.
The Nigerian government was previously reluctant to accept US help, citing the need to follow internal protocol first.
However, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan accepted the offer yesterday, according to a statement from the U.S. State Department.
Nigeria's government has recently come under attack for its inability to locate the girls after they were abducted more than three weeks ago.
The kidnapping has spurred global outrage and fueled protests calling on the Nigerian government to take quick and concise action. Human rights activists have also urged the US to get involved.
There are rising concerns over the possibility of future kidnappings as Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has issued statements pointing to Western education as "sinful" and warning that the extremist group plans on attacking more schools and kidnapping more girls.
