On November 6, 2014 news about Macaulay Culkin's death spread on social media, leaving his fans emotionally distraught.
The Facebook and twitter posts said that the Home Alone actor was found dead in his New York City Apartment. But, it turns out the news was a total hoax.
The story originated from the fake news website MSNBC.website.com, and not from the real MSNBC website.

The fake story says, "Sources report that actor Macaulay Culkin, best known for his role as Kevin McCallister in "Home Alone" and sequel "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York", was found dead at the age of 34.
Multiple sources say that Culkin was found dead Friday afternoon in his Manhattan apartment after police responded to a wellness check requested by one of his family members.
The Manhattan apartment confirmed, the apartment belongs to Culkin but police have not confirmed the man's identity at this time. "The apartment was clean and no signs of abuse or foul play were found so we are depending on the coroner to make a final ruling of what happened here today," said Det. James Patterson, of the Manhattan Police Department.
The news spread like wildfire, that a memorial page was even made for Culkin. Fans also tweeted their reactions, with some saying that their phones now auto-connect to "Macaulay Culkin," because they panic, texted the news to their friends.
Although, some people are also skeptical, theories that Culkin himself spread the rumor was also posted on social media sites. The actor was booed off stage earlier this year after his band, "The Pizza Underground" performed three songs -- the whole performance only lasted 15 minutes.
Macaulay is yet to release a statement about the hoax.
