Florida Mom Comes Back from the Dead

Ruby Graupera-Cassimiro has fully recovered after surviving 45 minutes without a pulse after she suffered a rare medical condition during a routine caesarean operation.

The 40-year-old woman from Boca Raton, Florida gave birth to a baby girl via cesarean section when she suffered an amniotic fluid embolism.

The rare condition frequently occurs after childbirth, when fluid that surrounds a baby enters a mother's bloodstream and heart, clogging it, according to Mayo Clinic website.

A team of more than a dozen doctors and nurses tried their best to revive her but lost hope eventually. The medical team removed all lifesaving equipment but watched her heart monitor after her heart gave up.

Spokesman Thomas Chakurda said doctors were prepared to pronounce the time of her death when Graupera-Cassimiro's heart started to beat again after 45 minutes in a near-death experience.

Within a few hours after surviving death, Graupera-Cassimiro was breathing on a tube and had written some notes to family.

"There's very few things in medicine that I've seen, working in the trauma center myself and doing all the things that I do, that really were either unexplainable or miraculous. And when I heard this story, that was the first thing that came to my mind," said Dr. Anthony Dardano, president of medical staff at Boca Raton Regional Hospital.

The doctors said she didn't suffer any complications. There wasn't any reduced brain function from the loss of circulation, and no burn from the repetitive delivered shocks.

Not even a bruise was present from the chest compression she received as doctors took turns trying to keep her alive.

Within a few days, Graupera-Cassimiro was back at home together with her healthy baby girl.
