National Security Report Says Terrorists in China Prefer Using Primitive Weapons

Terrorists in China prefer to use primitive weapons to carry out their attacks.
According to a national security report cited by Beijing Youth Daily on Wednesday, terrorists in China prefer using knives, gasoline and other primitive tools to commit mass murders.
The report was jointly released by the Social Sciences Academics Press and the Center for International Strategy and Security, which is under the University of International Relations. The file said terrorists are increasingly targeting areas with government entities, military, and police, People Daily said.

The file also mentioned that in 2013, seven out of the ten attacks that occurred in China targeted police stations, government establishments including Tiananmen Square, and political groups, the report relayed.
People Daily cited People's Public Security University of China intelligence expert Wu Shaozhong explaining that terrorists have been forced to use knives and gasoline because China has put a tight rein on guns. The "lethality" of the attacks has not changed despite the weapon used, he added.
Wu also said terrorism in China has become more active in terms of attacks and scale compared to recent years, the media firm relayed.
Beijing Youth Daily's report also suggested that the national security commission may become better equipped to face potential attacks in the future if intelligence departments and anti-terrorist organizations were integrated, the report said.
Just this April, China's President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of national security in the country. During the national security commission's first meeting, which he presided, he said "prime importance" should be placed on national security, the news firm said.
President Xi, the head of the national security commission, also said China is currently facing the most complex internal and external factors in history. He therefore encouraged his people to stick with one general goal for national security and find a path towards that goal that has "Chinese characteristics," wrote People Daily.
