Madonna's Clothes Rakes In Millions during Two-Day Celebrity Auction

Madonna's clothes just raised millions of dollars during a celebrity auction that started Friday in Beverly Hills. Julien's Auctions, which hosted the event featuring the "Material Girl's" belongings, said Saturday that bidders from the world over especially sought items from Madonna's professional and personal life during the Icons & Idols: Rock 'n' Roll Auction.

The auction featured various outfits worn by Madonna throughout her music and film career. As a result, Madonna's collection alone helped the auction raise US$3.2m (£2m), reports the BBC.
The piece which received the highest bid was a jacket from "Desperately Seeking Susan," generously fetching a record US$252,000. An earring Madonna wore on the same film went for US$34,375.
The gown and stole worn by the 56-year-old on her "Material Girl" video in 1984 sold for US$73,125. Meanwhile, her wedding dress during her wedding with Sean Penn in 1985 sold for US$81,250.
A dress Madonna wore on her "Who's That Girl" tour reached bids of up to US$50,000.
Other highlights pieces from the music icon's collection included her gown from the film Evita. It sold for US$15,000, while her "A League of Their Own" baseball uniform sold for US$31,250, according to the Associate Press.
Apart from Madonna, the California auction also featured pieces from Michael Jackson, Cher and The Beatles.
James Brown's red-sequinned cape sold for US$41,600.
Other auction pieces which attracted a lot of attention include a pair of John Lennon's spectacles, selling for US$25,000, as well as a ring worn by Elvis Presley for US$57,600.
Guitars from rock icons were also in the auction, including Prince's "Sign of the Times Love" guitar and a 1940 Gibson J200 from Stephen Stills of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. The instrument sold for US$43,750.
