Science Guy Bill Nye says people need to understand "the fundamental idea in all of life science" to be an effective members of society and critically-thinking voters.
The iconic Science Guy argued on Tuesday there's a link between people skeptical of climate change and those that assert the Earth has existed for only about 6,000 years.

In his book "Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation," he commented that Creationism is a valid theory of how people came up with evolution.
Nye is a scientist and he has no doubts those that deny the evolution theory are flat out wrong. He believes that evolution isn't a coincidence and that creationists even deny climate change.
"If we raise a generation of people, of science students, who don't understand the fundamental idea in all of life science, then they are not going to be productive members of society," Nye said.
People will not be wise voters and won't contribute significant changes in society, he added.
While he believes religion and science should have distance themselves from each other, the Science Guy said it's "helpful" Pope Francis stated evolution "does not conflict" with creationist thinking.
Nye's book deals with his debate earlier this year against creationist Ken Ham. Nye added this book was thoroughly researched to call the attention to Ham's erroneous and Biblical worldview for the sake of younger viewers.
He describes how an asteroid hit the Earth and ended the dinosaur era, enabling early mammals, like humans, to survive.
"A 10 kilometer-wide rock might not seem all that bad, considering it was going up against our 13,000 kilometer-wide planet. But the asteroid was probably moving about ... 45,000 miles per hour.
"At such speeds, it carried the energy of a trillion tons of TNT ...This impactor must have tossed debris right up through the atmosphere 200,000 kilometers high, halfway to the Moon. Our planet was surrounded by a cloud of red-hot rock for days or weeks ... Some came crashing down and set the world on fire. Sea creatures were cooked. And the ancient dinosaurs were either immolated where they stood, or they could not find food for their next meal.
"Meanwhile, our distant, distant ancestors were holed up in caves and burrows, and here you and I are ... not only because a medium-large asteroid helped clear the way ... but also because we haven't run into another asteroid that put us through the same infernal test," the Science Guy explained.
