After the Tuesday terrorist attack the Ministry of Public Safety immediately ordered extra patrol units nationwide to begin their operations on the evening of the same day.
More patrol officers were fielded out and scanners, equipment for video surveillance and other security monitoring equipment were ordered checked to ensure that they are in good working condition.
Li Juan, professor of public security, an expert in anti-terrorism and vice president of Xinjiang Police College said that the security measures now being done such as patrols and inspections have to be regular and made part of standard procedures and not just part of a short-term response to curb terrorism.
"Tougher security inspections in crowded regions, especially railway stations and airports, should be emphasized frequently to avoid some police officers' slacking off," said Li.
Li also said that the immediate response and guidance given by top-level officials to improve public security after the Tuesday railway station attack is very much appreciated.
On the night of the latest attack, Minister of Public Safety Guo Shengkun visited the Changsha railway station in Hunan province for inspection and ordered the police force to perform their security task in a more systematic way.
Vice-ministers Fu Zhenghua and Liu Yanping also inspected different Beijing and Shanghai railway stations calling on police officers for enhanced public-security awareness.
Li added that conducting strict and thorough inspection can help ease public anxiety to a certain degree, but according to Li security should also be a concern of he public and not just the police.
