At least 9.535 million people migrated to Shanghai last year, making the city most attractive place for migrant population, a local publication said.
The net inflow of people to Shanghai was even higher from the number of people who migrated to the capital city of Beijing, which recorded 7.718 million migrants last year.

Shanghai based magazine Value Line said that permanent residents in Shanghai was recorded at 23.8 million. Meanwhile, Beijing ranked second with a record of 20.7 million residents.
The province of Guangdong, a manufacturing zone, also took the lead as a major net inflow Chinese province. The province's southern cities including Shenzhen, Dongguan and Guangzhou recorded 7.555 million, 6.431 and 4.615 million migrant populations, respectively.
On the other hand, Chongqiang has proven to be least attractive as record showed that 3.984 million people left the city last year.
People are often attracted to migrate into rich urban zones for potential jobs and to seek better quality of life. This has triggered a large widespread of migration, which the Chinese government find hard to manage.
The Peking University has conducted a study showing that people who have migrated to the urban zone showed signs of progress, gaining an average of CNY3033 per month. The study also showed that city migrants also have deeper understanding of their social classes and hoped that their migration would advance their way of lives through jobs found in bigger cities.
The study added that city migrants consider getting married, owning a house and earning money to be the three core ingredients towards a happy life.
Slogans have already been raised asking migrants to transfer to other locations in China aside from Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing. However, the three cities have been migrant workers' favorites.
Eighty percent of the jobs in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Shanghai are usually filled with migrant workers. These city migrants have been aspiring to make more money for family support and eventually integrate to even better occupations in bigger cities.
