Born Andre Romelle Young, Dr. Dre is set to be the first billionaire of the hip-hop industry following the US$3.2 billion Apple-Beats deal.

The rap industry icon has confirmed on Friday that a deal between Apple and Beats Electronics would push through. Dr. Dre is the co-owner of Beats Electronics, manufacturer of the famous Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.

Dre expressed his excitement over the billion-dollar deal as he remarked that he was the first billionaire from the West Coast ever named in the rap industry. This was shown through a NSFW video that appeared on singer Tyrese Gibson’s FB page.

The video posted on Friday on Gibson’s Facebook page read, “the Forbes list just changed.”

The deal between Apple Inc. and Death Row Records’ co-founder has been recorded to be the biggest in the industry.

Forbes has calculated Dre’s net worth to be around $800 million, after capital gains taxes, $200 million away from becoming a billionaire which would not be enough to give him a spot on the Forbes 400.

However, the deal between the iPhone maker and Dre would shoot his worth ahead of Puff Daddy. The latter is listed on top of the richest rappers in the industry while Dr. Dre trails behind at second place.

Apple Inc. has been generally conservative with its acquisitions. The deal between Apple and Beats Electronics also includes the new Beats Music streaming which was launched last January to compete with rivals Spotify and Pandora.

The acquisition would also show that Apple is repackaging its music business after a decade from when it first opened iTunes.

Dr. Dre co-established Death Row records in 1991 and released a solo album, The Chronic, which was awarded triple platinum. At the time, Dre was also able to get the first out of his six Grammy Awards for his “Let Me Ride single.”
