Cop killer Eric Frein's desire for reforms prompted him to violate the law, which eventually led to his capture on October 30.
Frein is facing charges of terrorism and first-degree murder for staging a surprise attack on September 12 at Pennsylvania State Police Barracks, which seriously injured a trooper and killed Cpl. Bryon Dickson.

As seen in court documents, his sole motive for such unlawful acts is to 'wake people up' and raise social awareness on the possibility of change. More of his sentiments were revealed in a letter to his Mom and Dad, recovered by the police in a deserted hangar that could have been his temporary hide-out.
Dated December 29, 2013, the letter showed that Frein had long-term plans to carry out his goals. It was found by authorities while they are on a search operation to arrest Frein.
Upon his arrest, he admitted to the police in an interview that he is guilty of the crime. What he did to the troopers is his way of expressing his dissatisfaction with the government and a revolution could be the only way to usher in positive changes in the society, he said. According to Frein, there's no one worthy to vote for, hence, voting will not change the state of the nation.
In his letter to his parents, he talked about the ills of the government and that only a revolution can restore the liberties they used to have. He accepts that there are possibilities of failure and not sure what a revolution would be like, but he is determined to take the risk.
He further explained that what he did is entirely different and seemed worth trying.
In his letter, he even gave instructions that upon his death, his remains will be placed in a wooden casket and a candle must be lit at the Russian or Greek Orthodox Church.
Frein ended the letter with apologies to his parents for not being a good son, and expressed his love and appreciation for their efforts.
