Daniel Day-Lewis Knighted by Prince William

'The Last of the Mohicans' star, Daniel Day-Lewis, in recognition of his talents has been knighted by the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, during a ceremony held at the Buckingham Palace last Friday.

Day-Lewis was honored into knighthood by Prince William at a ceremony held last Friday in recognition of his acting career, citing him as the only actor to win the best actor award three times in the Academy Awards.

The 57-year old actor has been named during the Queen Elizabeth II's Honor List last June. The actor expressed that he was amazed and has been very delighted being included in the list.

Day-Lewis has obtained his very first Oscar award back in 1989 for the film, 'My Left Foot,' wherein he was cast as Irish writer and painter Christy Brown, who suffered from a condition called, cerebral palsy and was only able to write using the toe of his left foot.

The actor won another award in the Oscars in 2007 for his role in the film, 'There Will Be Blood' by Peter Thomas Anderson, portraying the role of a 20th century oil magnate. In 2012, he also won an award for playing the role of assassinated US President Abraham Lincoln in a historical film that Steven Spielberg directed.

The 'My Left Foot' star has also been nominated for his roles in, 'In the Name of the Father' which was released in 1994 and the 2003 film, 'Gangs of New York' which also featured Leonardo DiCaprio.

Day-Lewis has been famous for being a method actor who goes through extreme lengths in order to prepare for his film roles. According to media reports, the actor had to go through rigorous trainings for his body and also learned how to hunt for his role in, 'The Last of the Mohicans'.
