The very first televised Hollywood Film Awards looked like a drawn out advertisement for the Academy awards.

Most of the recipients were recognized for their films that have not yet been released. During the commercial breaks, trailers for the said films were shown.

Host Queen Latifah talked about the event's obscurity during her opening monologue by saying "Not many people knew about tonight's ceremony" in which the audience responded with laughter.

The awardees also responded to the recognition with wacky acceptance speeches, although a few received theirs with speeches of genuine appreciation.

Chris Rock who accepted an award for his upcoming film, "Top Five" received his, with a rather goofy acceptance speech. "All my life I have dreamt of getting one of these, like most people in this room and I cannot believe that this has come," he continued by saying "An Oscar is an Oscar," as he examined the trophy, "What exactly is this? A shiny blackie. I do not know, but, I love it though."

Johnny Depp on the other hand, had a rather unusual on stage presence. The actor slurred and used expletives in front of the audience as he presented the documentary award for "Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon."

Actor and Director Ben Affleck accepted his award by saying, "When they told me that there were no other nominees, I felt optimistic."

Presenter Jonah Hill was repeatedly attacked with hugs by winners Steve Carell and Channing Tatum during their acceptance speech for their work in the film, "Foxcatcher."

The Hollywood Film Awards was founded by entrepreneur Carlos de Abreu and his wife Janice Pennington in 1997and was previously held off-camera.
