EXO Chinese Member Lay's Handprint Sold for $9K at Charity Auction in Korea

EXO Member Lay's bronze handprint had been sold for $9,107 at a Star Item Auction on November 5, 2014 in Korea.

The online auction is part of the Girls' Education Campaign of CJ Entertainment and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO), which also includes the Star Item Shop and Kind Hearts.

Proceeds from the event would be used to support the education of young girls in South East Asia, who need educational support. The auction is also part of the promotions for the upcoming event Mnet Asian Music Awards 2014.

Bids started at $100. After seventy-seven bids, the $9K bid had won. Another item sold for a very high price is EXO Kai's handprint. After forty-six bids, it had been sold for $8, 140.

Lay is the main dancer of the band's Chinese sub-unit called EXO-M. Before being recruited by the S.M. Entertainment in the global audition, Lay already had a career in China as Zhang Yi Xing. He appeared at Hunan's Star Academy in 2005.

Yi Xing's fans are well known for conducting charity projects in his name. It started when he suggested to the fans to spend money on charity, instead of expensive presents for him. The fans took his words seriously.

In 2013, one of Lay's fansites in China etablished a charity foundation in his name. The fans held a large charity project, where huge amount of books and musical instruments wwere gathered as a birthday present for him.

The following year, his fans raised funds to have a forest created and named after him as a birthday present. In Korea, Lay became the first Chinese idol to have a forest named after him.

Boy band EXO has been gaining popularity in China since they debuted in 2012. The band is one of the most popular KPop groups with Chinese members. Two inactive members, Kris and Luhan, are currently in China after filing lawsuits against the S.M. Entertainment for health issues.

In Septemeber, EXO ended their debut concert tour, The Lost Planet in China after holding ten shows in different cities.
