The world's first glow-in-the-dark bike path opened in Eindhoven City, The Netherlands on November 13. The route is split into five different round trips that measure 335 kilometers (280 miles) long in total.
The illuminated bike path was inspired by famous artist Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Night" painting and designed by Daan Roosegaarde. The path runs through the Dutch province, North Brabant which is the hometown of world-renowned painter.

The route is embedded with thousands of small solar-powered LED lights. It is charge during the day and glows almost all night. The glow-in-the-dark effect was achieved by mixing a green paint and "photo-luminising" powder.
It gives a clearer road path for people who enjoy biking during the night and is a lot cheaper to maintain than street lights.
"I wanted to create a place that people will experience in a special way the technical combined with experience, that's what techno-poetry means to me," designer Roosegaarde explained.
The bike path has been in construction for two years. The opening marks the start of cultural activities prepared by The Netherlands, Belgium and France to commemorate the 125th Anniversary of Van Gogh's death (1853-1890).
This is not the first time the designer and the construction company collaborated. They have built various projects called "Smart Highways" that help control the traffic situation in The Netherlands.
Smart Highways was unveiled last month by the collaborators. It has the same illuminated technology that uses the luminous paint. It is drawn in a straight line that drivers can clearly see during the night.
