(Photo : Reuters) Apple might be having more success with the iPhone 6 Plus in Asia, but in the U.S. the iPhone 6 is the people's favorite.

Apple's new iPhone 6s the two best selling phones of 2014, which many industry observers have attributed to people wanting a bigger phone with a bigger screen these days. But in the U.S - the land of bigger is better - the iPhone 6 is outselling the larger iPhone 6 Plus by three to one.

In its earnings reports, Apple likes to bundle iPhone sales together, possibly to avoid showing the results of the weaker option. But analyst Steve Milunovich parsed the data to find that the iPhone 6 controls 68 percent of iPhone sales in the U.S., while the iPhone 6 Plus straggles behind at 24 percent.

The iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C continue to sell 10 percent of all stock, showing a demand for lower-priced iPhones. Apple does not cover last-year's devices either, meaning analysts can't get a good read on how the cheaper iPhone is doing in the market.

However, these numbers should not be too surprising. In October, the iPhone 6 reportedly had over 5 percent web share on mobile, while the iPhone 6 Plus could not move past 1 percent.

It looks like customers have stopped getting so rattled up about the iPhone 6 Plus. Apple had to fix the issues with the iPhone 6 Plus bending, leading to the #BendGate trend, further polluting the iPhone 6 Plus' premium identity.

However, the iPhone 6 Plus appears to be performing well in Asia - especially in China - where analysts estimate that more than 15 million iPhone 6 Plus units have been sold since its launch.

The iPhone 6 Plus offers a great deal more in terms of specs. A full 1080p screen, much larger battery and other niceties to make it an ideal purchase. T

Apple is ramping up production on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in preparation for the largest holiday season the company has ever seen. Reportedly, Apple is looking to sell 80 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units by the end of 2014, with another 30 to 50 million in 2015.
