There are around 100 million people in China who suffer from some kind of video game addiction with symptoms that are already classified under 'brain damage', a recent study showed.
These symptoms, according to the study conducted by Chinese research companies Enfodesk and Eguan, include poor self control and irrational dependence on video games.

The results showed that around 67.5% of gamers admitted knowing someone that fit in the "brain damaged" category. Out of the total number of respondents, only 0.02% voluntarily put themselves under the brain damaged profile, according to Shanghaiist.
Although the conclusion of the study may appear a little hasty, the data gathered by the two firms are still worth reading.
According to Tech In Asia, the data were gathered through face-to-face interviews, questionnaires, and field testing.
The study revealed that there is a high concentration of gaming addicts in the northeast provinces of China. These areas make up 29.7% of the whole population afflicted with the addiction.
Henan province, meanwhile, comprised 17.2%, with Fujian taking the next rank with 12.9%. The remaining 40.2% of the afflicted population are scattered across the whole country, the research showed.
As expected, the study showed men were affected 30% more than women.
It has not been confirmed yet if the 100 million people featured in the study are really addicted to video games and if they really suffer "brain damage" or have some deficit in their mental capacity.
Regulators in the country have attempted to force game developers to implement some form of anti-addiction system to shield minors from the detrimental effects of video game addiction. Unfortunately, most of the developers have failed to execute the said system.
If China already has millions of "brain damaged" video gamers right now, that number is expected to increase significantly once game consoles, such as the Xbox, are launched in the country, experts said.
