‘Orange Is the New Black’ Actor, Diane Guerrero’s Advocacy on Immigration Reform Stems from a Personal Experience

Diane Guerrero's move to wage an advocacy on immigration reform stemmed from a personal and seemingly tragic experience on immigration concerns.
More than a decade ago, Guerrero's immediate family members had been subjected to law enforcement procedures when they were discovered to have fallen under the 'undocumented immigrants' from Colombia, Takepart revealed.

Guerrero narrated that the tragic event happened when she was only 14 years old and still in high school in Boston. Her family was torn apart that fateful day, when she arrived home one afternoon and found out that her older brother and her parents were taken away by the officers and were deported.
Now that she is fortunate to land a career in the entertainment industry and wields an influence over the social networking sites, the "Orange is the New Black" star takes the opportunity to run an advocacy on immigration reform. She advanced an idea not foreign to her, having experienced firsthand the pain of going through deportation proceedings.
Eventually her efforts gained positive results. She said President Barack Obama will provide deportation relief for the approximately 11.5 million undocumented immigrants across the country. The President will propose an immigration policy that will specifically address deportation problem.
In 2012 the program, 'Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals' was implemented to safeguard those who are below 30 years old and have migrated to the country before reaching the age of 16. They were also allowed to have working permits.
Guerrero's initiative could make valuable contributions to the government's effort to act on the clamor for immigration reform laws.
