Two New York Police Department (NYPD) officers took the award-winning actor into custody after spotting him riding his bike opposite traffic in lower Manhattan on Tuesday at 10:00 am. He was then given one summons for the bicycle offense and another one for disorderly conduct.
Sergeant Lee Jones of the NYPD told Reuters that Baldwin acted in a violent and threatening way toward the cops and was then taken to the 13th Precinct to be processed. He was released later in the morning, according to an NYPD spokeswoman.
Earlier in 2014, the Hollywood actor had mentioned he was mulling over moving to another city, citing press reports about him being a "homophobic bigot" as one of the reasons.
In an article published by the New York Magazine in February, the actor said he probably needs to leave New York and that he can't live in the city anymore.
According to Seattle Pi, Baldwin lashed out at the NYPD via Twitter hours after the said arrest. He detailed the name and badge number of the officer who arrested him.
In another tweet, he described New York as a "mismanaged carnival of stupidity" that desperately needed cash. He also said the police department was eager to "criminalize" acts that were considered harmless.
The paparazzi photographers who had gathered outside Baldwin's apartment after the arrest were unable to escape his criticisms. He also sent a tweet saying the photographers "terrified" his daughter and almost hit her with a camera.
The actor said the police officers did nothing about what happened to his daughter, as per Baldwin's tweet.
