Wiper is a free app for iOS and Android devices that lets you send secure text messages and photos, said Mashable.
You can later remove the text message or photo from the recipient's photo, provided the other phone also has the Wiper App. In case the other user tries to download, forward or screenshot the text or photo, Wiper will notify you about it.

The Wiper app also lets users place encrypted calls to phones that also have the app. To encourage users to stay and use it, the Wiper app also lets users share videos and music and other files with other Wiper users.
Lifehacker, the developers of the Wiper app, however, wouldn't divulge much about the type of encryption used. They'd only say the encryption level is the same or better than most apps offering the same services.
Apps like Wiper are gaining popularity because of privacy concerns. Internet users must be vigilant and take care their communications aren't compromised. Wiper is supposed to assure users that texts, photos or calls they send are secure and not open to anyone else.
There are concerns if the messages are indeed deleted from Wiper's servers. The app uses a closed source and not open source software.
The developers promised they'll soon reveal how the app works. The people behind Wiper, however, have no wish to make it an open source app.
Wiper CEO Manlio Carrelli explains the app was created with the average user in mind. In an interview with Mashable, he said privacy is an issue that most people take seriously. To help users, Wiper designed the app to be as user friendly as possible.
"Otherwise, folks won't adopt them," he adds.
The Wiper app is quite fun to use but whether a lot of people will be convinced to use it is another matter. There are already plenty of messaging services out there but Wiper's secure text messaging and encrypted calls can be the edge it needs to win over prospective users.
