The Alabama Crimson Tide jumps to first place in the College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings after handing the top-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs their first loss last Saturday.

The CFP 12-member committee released their rankings last Tuesday. With Alabama at the top spot, the Oregon Ducks came in second, and Florida State Seminoles - the only undefeated team left - came in third.

Initially, the Bulldogs had the top spot the past three weeks.

However, the committee said that the Crimson Tide's 25-20 victory over the Bulldogs was a major factor for the new rankings.

"We feel like Alabama is the most complete team right now," the committee's chairman, Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long, said on ESPN2.

Oregon was off during the weekends and Florida State beat the hosting Miami team (30-26) to continue their winning streak.

Ohio State moved from the number eight position to number six after their 31-24 win against Minnesota, skipping over Baylor which had a Bye week. Texas Christian dropped one spot to number five after beating a weak Kansas team.

The last three spots on the top 10 were rounded up by Mississippi, UCLA, and Georgia, respectively.

The fact that the Seminoles now have two teams with one loss above them in the ranking, it just goes to show that while the committee is respectful of their undefeated streak, they are also a bit sceptical of the strength of their schedule.

"Strength of schedule is an important factor that once again came into play," Long said of the teams in a conference call.

Throughout the season, the Seminoles have only beaten two top-25 opponents in Clemson (now 22 on the rankings) and Louisville (24).

The committee will release its final rankings on December 7, after the major conference championship games on the two previous days.

Those picks will get to determine the composition of the six playoff-affiliated bowls, including the semi final games.
