Apple's China Apps Store Minimum Price Set to 16 Cents

(Photo : Apple) Apple has set the China's Apps Store minimum price to 16 cents, the cheapest rate in the world for iOS apps.
Apple has always kept a similar price for paid apps on the iOS store, starting them at $0.99 or the regional equivalent. This has slowed the progress of paid apps in poorer countries, where people might not be able to afford $0.99 apps.
China, one of the largest iOS markets, has reportedly got a large price drop. The minimum price for apps in China is now ¥1 or $0.16, the cheapest price globally. Several top apps - including Doodle Jump, Plague Inc and Limbo - are now available for $0.16.

Pricing apps depending on region could give a massive increase in apps sales in China. Having the lowest price at $0.16 makes apps much more affordable and analysts project it could increase paid apps sales tenfold, in some cases.
This has not been proven and it is still not confirmed if this is a bug or an actual move by Apple to offer different regional prices for apps. It would make sense for Apple to provide lower prices for countries with less income per capita.
It is unknown why Apple decided to make this move for China first - it is the largest apps store - but the effects of lower priced apps in India would be larger. It is also unknown how many mobile users in India actually own iPhones.
Apple has over 30 million sales in China alone this year, according to several reports inside China. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have been the most popular devices in the region, alongside Xiaomi's Redmi and Mi smartphones.
App developers have not spoke about the possibility of lower prices, but it looks like some developers are interested in making apps easier to buy. Most apps sit on the $0.99 price barrier, to make the app available to the largest amount of people, without making it free.
