Hong Kong actor Wong Cho Lam made headlines when he went down on one knee with a bouquet of roses and popped the question to girlfriend Leanne Li Yanan at the TVB's 48th anniversary gala Wednesday. With tears of joy streaming down her cheeks, Li accepted Wong's marriage proposal.

"We are two different people. I was just a host of a children's program, and you were the winner of a beauty contest. I am short, and you are tall. I am very complicated and you are so simple," Wong began his romantic narrative.

"No matter how hard to pursue you, I have a faith that marrying you I will be very happy in my life...I think it is not easy to find a partner to live with grace every day. There are many people in front of and behind the scenes here who watch us grow up,  so I would like to ask you under everyone's witness, Li Yanan, will you marry me?," he asked her.

Li could not hide how moved she was as Wong slipped a ring on her finger. Their parents, Eric Tsang Chi Wai, and other actors and actresses equally relished the romantic moment and hugged Li with their best wishes.

In November 2010, Wong publicly declared his love for Li on the Internet. They had been secretly together for more than one year at the time. Li had said she did not mind that her boyfriend is shorter than her.

Wong and Li's romance reportedly began at a dinner together in 2007, and it blossomed into love in 2009. Their next five years together saw much approval and well-wishes from netizens.

"So it is said, men's appearance and height are not important at all as long as they are talented. Best wishes to Wong Cho Lam, marring a beauty.  This is a highlight of TVB's Anniversary Gala," said one fan after the proposal.

Leanne Li Yanan is an actress and host at TVB. She won the Miss Chinese International Pageant in 2005, representing Canada.
