(Photo : Fox 9) A hero cat came to the rescue of a young boy who was attacked by a dog while riding his bike in the driveway of a Bakersfield, Calif. home on Tuesday.

A family cat fearlessly attacked and chased off a dog that bit his owner's son this week in Bakersfield, California.

The cat's heroic act was caught on a surveillance video that the 4-year-old boy's father posted to YouTube. The footage shows a dog walking around an SUV parked in the Bakersfield driveway where the child is riding his tricycle, according to Los Angeles Times.

After a few seconds, the dog suddenly goes around the vehicle and bites the boy's ankle, separating him from his bike. Within just a moment, the family cat named Tara enters the scene and charges into the dog.

Tara then chased the dog away from his owner's son. A few moments later, the cat comes back to the boy who is now seen being tended by his mother.

The boy's mother told local news firm KERO-TV Channel 23 that the boy had sustained a deep bite wound on the leg which had already been stitched up.

The mother also said the dog was owned by a neighbor and was already being observed.

A dog is known as man's bestfriend, but the recorded incident on Tuesday may very well force humans to think otherwise.

The report also cited a separate footage recorded from outside the house of the dog's owner showing the dog facing the direction where the boy is riding his tricycle. The dog's ears go up before he runs toward the SUV and attacks the child.

The video then shows the dog dragging the boy away from his bike for a moment before the cat comes running and knocks the dog off the child.

The last part of the second video shows the mother, the child, and the cat facing the direction of the dog's house. The footage also shows the two gashes on the boy's leg and then the same bite wounds with several stitches.
